Logs on stove                Logs on wood burnign stove

This householder had been trying to dry logs on top of her lit stove. This is how they were found and you can see the scorched wood in the second picture. Please don’t try to dry your logs on or near a lit stove or you may end up with a much bigger fire than you’d planned for. Using dry logs is ideal but it’s a job best done outside in a log store or in a commercial kiln. Drying logs near the stove can also introduce fungal spores in to the air you breathe. Any insects in or on the logs will move to other parts of your house! Fires are very safe if correctly fitted but common sense helps too. If this person had fallen asleep or forgotten about it, the consequences could have been disastrous.
