From Chimney Sweeping to Cycling Around the World for UNICEF

Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps member and Norfolk-based sweep George Kohler, of Hart & Kohl, has swapped his brushes for two wheels.

George, 56, and his son Josh, 22, are embarking on an adventure of a lifetime, aiming to become the first father and son to circumnavigate the globe by bicycle.

The intrepid pair set off in late March on their Guinness World Records™️ title attempt which will see them cycling unsupported through 30 countries, pedalling over 30,000 kilometres in support of UNICEF, through extremes of climate and terrain, ascending the equivalent of 25 Mount Everests as they raise awareness and support for the children’s charity UNICEF (link to giving page here)

Filmmaker Josh is documenting their extraordinary year-long journey as they pedal around the world. He said: “I’m keen to capture the intense experience of our ultra bike touring adventure and reflect not only the places we pass but also the relationships we build, especially the one with my dad, with the many ups and downs there will be!”

“The sheer scale of the challenge is formidable, including diverse cultures, remote landscapes and dangerous wildlife – from the familiar architecture of Europe to the Silk Roads of Tajikistan, the desert basins of China, the jungles of southeast Asia and the mountains of New Zealand and the Andes.”  Josh added, “What better way to experience this than on two wheels!”

Army veteran George is equally enthused about the daunting year ahead: “I know we will face huge adversity on this adventure, but I hope that the bonds we make and stories we share will inspire others to take on adventures of their own, no matter how big or small. I’ll also be keeping an eye out for unusual chimneys and sweeping tips from around the world!”

In 2021 the novice cyclists took to two wheels and cycled from Land’s End to John o’Groats. The following year, they rode over 6,000 kilometres across the USA from New York to San Francisco, raising over £7,000 for the Royal British Legion’s Battle Back Centre. Their three-month journey was showcased in a moving YouTube video that has captured the imagination of many. https://youtu.be/9wI1OojrSqk?feature=shared
