Just under a month from now, chimney sweep and cycling adventurer George Kohler and his son Josh will return to the UK after literally cycling around the world.
The intrepid pair have been on a truly epic journey and their homecoming on the 2nd of May will mark 400 days away and over 30,000 km in the saddle!

The finish line is at George’s home in the village of Halvergate, Norfolk, where well-wishers, local dignitaries will welcome them back. As a special tribute, chimney sweep colleagues will form an ‘avenue of rods and brushes’’ to mark the occasion. The Guinness World Records™ verifier will be present to make it all official. Since they set off in March last year, the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps has documented their progress, keeping fellow sweeps up to date and helping promote fundraising: You can review past articles via the links below and see their outstanding film updates on YouTube / Instagram.
Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps chair Lawson Wight said “George joined the Guild after his initial training a few years ago. When we heard about the record-breaking plans, we just had to follow their story. Chimney sweeps are a close community, members made a sizeable donation, and it’s been great to support a colleague in this challenge. On the 2nd of May we’re inviting fellow sweeps to pick up a rod and brush and join us to honour their return. It should make quite a picture as they approach the finish through an ‘avenue of sweeps’ with rods and brushes raised.” (Any sweeps wishing to join in are very welcome – see further details here: Chimney Sweeps to honour record breaking colleague
Early April will see them land in Lisbon, Portugal to begin the last leg of the journey, heading north with the European spring. Prior to this stage they crossed the Andes from Chile with a 4000-meter climb and then on through the amazing scenery of Argentina and Brazil.
UK landfall on the south coast is due in late April. The final route will take them through London and Norwich with their triumphant homecoming scheduled for 2pm on Saturday 2nd May.
Media interest is already building and as they hit UK shores, many cycling enthusiasts and supporters will be joining in and cheering them on.
George, Josh and their ‘UK team’ are raising money to help desperate children via UNICEF. The Guild would like to help them smash their £50 000 target; See their JustGiving page and the donations here: George Kohler is fundraising for UNICEF UK
